From bfd@world.std.comFri Feb 9 17:22:40 1996 Date: Wed, 07 Feb 96 16:42:29 -0500 From: Joe Brooks To: "scan-mass-east@nomad.n-reading.ma.us" Subject: ALL-OUT -- [ From: Joe Brooks * EMC.Ver #2.5.03 ] -- Actually, the signal 2-2-2-2 is box 2222. An All-Out is sounded as 2-2 2-2. In Boston the signal is mostly just tradition. It is usually ordered when the fire is out and most of the overhauling work has been done. There have been times, however, when after an Incident Commander has ordered the "all-out" he has had to ask for more help. (of course we will deny that has ever happened!) As some have suggested the striking of alarms is not antiquated just yet. By striking the signal 9-174 (9 alarms in Edward Everett Square) we can move 21 engines and 7 ladders into a fire and cover the empty firehouses. This size incident requires nearly 100 separate movements of apparatus. The current Boston CAD system can not even come close to that kind of speed. Joe Brooks BFD/Operations
