Urgences Santé has used an EFJohnson "LTR" 800 MHz trunked system since 1984. Unlike most trunking systems, one can predict which frequencies will carry which traffic on an LTR system. At least most of the time. When the system gets busy, there's no telling!
Urgences Santé technicians are now using Semi Automatic External Defibrillators and "Combitubes" (an airway similar to, but an improvement on the old EOA). This is a huge improvement over years past when EMTs (ou bien "Technicien Ambulancier") were given the third degree if they so much as used O2!! Congratulations to all those that pushed for changes!
The Pointe Claire Fire Department celebrated 20 years of EMS in 1996. Most of those years, firefighters operated at a defacto paramedic level, with the blessing of local emergency physicians and despite the best efforts of regional and provincial governments and the various unions. Remember when PCFD provided the prehospital care and "11-15" or "11-16" provided the ride?? The City of Pointe Claire also offers Canada's premiere citizen CPR program.
1996 was also Urgences Santé's 15th anniversary. I think they started ops on 7 Dec 1981. No mention of the anniversary on their WWW page. Of course, it's a different corporate entity today than it was then ...
