********************************************* * Razorback Radio News - Electronic Edition * * (c) February 3 1995 * ********************************************* Annual meeting - 1st Thursday of September Regular meetings - 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month Informal Lunch meeting - every Thursday Operation SKYWARN - whenever necessary!! EXTRA ----- Last nite's meeting went really well. The guest speaker, Austin Dobson N5UWS, a retired aerospace engineer, gave a fantastic overview of RADAR. Those of you that missed it really missed it! Despite the best efforts of ARCUA President Jeff McFarland, the business meeting went long again. As a result, a consensus decision was made to hold regular meeting *twice* per month for the remainder of the semester due to the volume of business that needs to be discussed. The meeting on the 1st Thursday will feature a guest speaker in addition to the business meeting and the meeting on the 3rd Thursday will focus on business. Another change to the meeting structure was also made. When the club hosts a guest speaker on the 1st Thursday, that speaker will begin his/her presentation at 7:30 p.m. sharp. The business meeting will precede the speaker and will begin at 6:45 p.m. For consistency's sake, the meeting on the 3rd Thursday will also begin at 6:45 p.m. Meetings for the rest of the year are tentatively scheduled for 2/16, 3/2, 3/16, 4/6, 4/20, and 5/4. This marks the first time in roughly 30 years that ARCUA has met more than once per month and is testament to the increased level of activity that we are enjoying! SAREX/STS-67 ------------ Walt Carter N5YGR has (or was :) volunteered to be in charge of debugging the "phonepatches" and to construct the necessary interface cabling. Yu Yuan SWL has volunteered to assist him. Any others wanting to assist Walt should email him at wwc@engr.uark.edu. Walt said he can complete this by the 10th. Frank Buercklin KB5WAR, Walt, Lynn N0PMQ and Andy KB0PBH Janes, Kevin Thortnton KC5LDC, Ryan Wells KC5LDD as well as Jeff, Dr Charlton, and Dan Puckett and the editor are the folks who will be making up the "W5YM ground station team" so far. Selected members of this team will visit Watson Elementary before the 17th of February to field test the equipment. Assuming a T=March 2 @ 0037 CST, a full dress rehearsal will be held March 6 with the actual Contact taking place on March 15 at 1758 CST. Keep in mind that any NASA schedule is subject to change and the two dates in March will change right along with them. STS-63 launched safely last night at 2322 CST. A leak has been discovered in one of the reaction control system jets. This may effect the scheduled rendezvous with MIR. Stay tuned for details! WEATHER ------- No, not the snow in today's forecast! Steve Piltz KA9MLL of NWS Tulsa will be at the Siloam Springs Section meeting of the NWAARC speaking about weather spotting. It is not known whether this is a "certification" course. Steve Gibbs KB5VGO, KHOG's weatherman will speak about reporting the weather at the Feb 10 meeting of the NWAARC in Springdale. 73 DE W5YM =========================================================================== Razorback Radio News is a publication of the Amateur Radio Club of the University of Arkansas, Inc.
