Meeting & Tour -------------- ARCUA's next meeting will be on March 2nd, 6:45 p.m., room 291, Bell. No speaker is scheduled. Instead, a tour of the FAA RADAR and communications facilities at Fayetteville International Airport is planned. The tour will take place at 2 p.m. NOTE SPECIAL TIME. Interested parties should assemble at that time at the bottom of the ramp in Bell Engineering. Exam ---- Next amateur radio license exam is scheduled for March 11th in Siloam Springs. Weather ------- Steve Piltz KA9MLL, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Tulsa, is tentatively scheduled to speak about severe weather at the April 4th ARCUA meeting. Watch this space for confirmation. SAREX ----- Planning for ARCUA's role in SAREX, the Shuttle Amateur Radio EXperiment, continues to go well. As noted previously, ARCUA is providing technical support to Watson Elementary School in Huntsville, Ark. Children from that school will be talking - live - to astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during the upcoming STS-67/ASTRO-2 mission. A dress rehearsal was held on February 21st. Equipment was set up and operated as it will be on the day of the contact. The students, fourth and fifth graders, practiced asking their questions. Gerald Van Brundt, county agent in Madison County and spouse of local SAREX team leader Karla Van Brundt, volunteered as the virtual astronaut. Members of the W5YM/SAREX Away Team and the Watson students performed "to spec" and (we *think*) everyone enjoyed the evening. The current timeline is as follows: STS-67 launches on 2 MARCH 1995 at 00:37 CST. Contact with Watson is scheduled for Mission Elapsed Time (MET) 12 days, 18 hours, 22 minutes and will last for a maximum of 8 minutes. That translates to 6:59 p.m., March 14th. All this assumes a nominal launch at the scheduled time AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITH AS LITTLE AS 24 HOURS NOTICE. Up to the minute (literally) STS-67-specific information is available through the W5YM WWW home page. It's new address is http://www.uark.edu/studorg/w5ym/. Stay tuned for details!!
