Date: Wed, 27 Sep 1995 20:58:07 -0500 (CDT) From: Kevin Thornton Subject: Pres sez The year is off to a great start. I think the first two meetings went very well. As I have said before, I believe we will have a great year in ARCUA. We have some fun things planned and some great speakers lined up for the meetings. I think that each of us can find something interesting in the projects we have planned. So, all we need is involvement. The ball should really get rolling now that we're into the semester. Let's see if we can make this the best year yet! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting. 73, Kevin KC5LDC September 21 Meeting -------------------- ARCUA's last meeting went well (as usual). Dan Puckett K5FXB gave two reports. He told of ARCUA's participation in the RSO Fair held on September 13. Once again, with the assistance of Union staff, ARCUA members installed a dipole on the plaza and were able to make several HF contacts. Dan also reported on TNCs. After careful deliberation, the membership decided to purchase a PacComm Tiny 2. It is hoped that the club will be able to take advantage of the GPS (Global Positioning System) support that is built into the Tiny 2. The club will be applying for B-Funds in order to pay for the repair of the Kenwood TS820 HF rig and help pay for the TNC. Members also plan to build code practice oscillators. These oscillators will have a keying circuit to enable MCW to be sent with an HT. Jeff McFarland KB5RUI is in charge of procuring a design. Members also expressed an interest in demonstrating Amateur Radio to Boy and Girl Scout groups. Secretary Wells KC5LDD, himself an Eagle Scout, will provide the relevant information. The cookout has yet to be rescheduled. Code Classes ------------ At the last meeting, it was decided that there was sufficient interest in Morse Code for a class to be held. The class will be designed for both beginners and those with some code experience. Thursday evening is the night chosen, with final details yet to be worked out. Projected start date is October 12. Hamfests -------- The NW Arkansas Amateur Radio Club's annual hamfest will be held on October 21 at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The Ft Smith ARC hamfest will be held on September 30. Email Dan Puckett for details. 73 DE W5YM =========================================================================== Considering joining the ARRL? If you do, make sure you do it through ARCUA. Why?
