Antenna Party ------------- The antenna work party at Dr. Balda KB5ZWW's house is this Saturday! Those of us who volunteered (and anyone else :) will meet in the parking lot in front of Bell at 0900. We will be installing 10 and 40m dipoles. Station Upgrades ---------------- Several station upgrades were completed today by K5GOE, K5FXB and myself. (K5FXB also recently built an adapter that allows the use of the Kenwood TS820's desk mike on the TS790A.) The AEA PK232 Multimode Communications Processor was upgraded to the PK232MBX model through the generosity of Tony Rossi WB2ROC. This unit is fully operational and because of the updated innards, will allow for further firmware upgrades. The Kenwood TM7800 2m transceiver was also installed today. This radio is part of the Estate of Carlos Solis WB5SDJ / TG9AI. This radio will be used primarily for local voice comms. It will come in handy during SKYWARN nets. This radio lacks only battery back up for it's memories and that should be taken care of soon, possibly by the time you read this. Thanks to Wade Espenscheid for fabricating the security bracket. There is one big caveat with this rig: It has NO SWR SENSING/PROTECTION CIRCUIT!! If you were to transmit without an antenna connected, the transmitter's "finals" will be finished. The main problem with this (aside from the obvious) is that the final stages of this particular radio are 1) unserviceable, due to their design and 2) virtually irreplaceable, due to scarcity. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please make sure an antenna is connected before you operate the radio. 73, Peter Laws N5UWY/AA - V31WY President, Amateur Radio Club, University of Arkansas / W5YM
